The hospital webpageOnly in Danish!

The Psychiatric Centre of Hvidovre is a General Psychiatric Hospital serving a catchment area of around 130.000 inhabitants. There are a total of 128 beds. The centre contains 2 closed wards, 1 Old Age psychiatric ward with a home treatment team, 2 open wards, a first episode psychosis ward and an acute ward. On top of that there is a team for homeless people, an out-patient clinic treating non-psychotic illnesses and community services. The latter is located in the city centre.

The main interest of research is phenomenological psychopathology and there are 1-3 pHd-students and a professor in this field. This reflects the work and discussions at the hospital. Education has high priority, and trainees are well received.

If you have other desires such as CAP, forensic, we will try to arrange this during your stay but the main affiliation will be at Hvidovre.

We aim to host 2 applicants at the same time. The duration of the stay is maximum 2 weeks but can flexible according to financial abilities and personal wishes.

Requirements:
You should have commenced your residency in psychiatry (or CAP). Apart from that, there are no specific requirements.

Language:
Danish is working language. English is widely spoken by staff and patients at a high level. No Danish skills are required. Fluent English is essential. Knowledge of a Scandinavian language enhances the outcome greatly. But there is willingness to get things to work and Danes are not shy when it comes to English :-)

Accommodation:
We sometimes have trainees, who are willing to host 1-2 trainees. You might have to share room. This will be free of charge except for food expenses.
If you prefer staying on your own - try hotels.com, booking.com or google Bed & Breakfast in Copenhagen. There are plenty of opportunies.

Travel information
VISA is not needed for EU/EUMS citizens. See the list for other countries.
Travel insurance is highly recommended. No further health insurance is required since you only observe.

Be prepared: Living expenses are high in Denmark. There are certain tricks to overcome this, though. Discount supermarket chains (“Netto”, “Fakta”) have nice high quality food. Brewing your own coffee (a latte is 4,70 €!), cooking your own meals by far is the cheapest option (and partly why Danes invite friends over instead of going out… and bring lunch to work instead of buying at the canteen). Many museums are free on Wednesdays etc. Renting a bike will save you loads on public transport (a ticket is 3,50€!)
DON’T LET THIS STOP YOU FROM COMING TO DENMARK. There are plenty of free/cheaper
opportunities. More information when you arrive depending on wishes :-)
WELCOME!
